The Town of Breckenridge Police Department is seeking qualified candidates to be considered for a Sergeantvacancy in the Patrol Division. The person selected will lead a team of sworn and non-sworn staff in the police department in the fulfillment of its mission. The police Sergeant will be responsible for both 'in the field' supervision as well as administrative responsibilities and will be a part of the departments' management team.
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Police and/or Assistant Chief of Police, the sergeant assists in the administration, supervision, line function, and coordination of activities of the police department. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- Must be of 21 years of age or older at time of appointment.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Colorado POST Certified or the ability to obtain prior to appointment.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a sworn law enforcement position.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:- Must successfully pass a criminal background check with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
- A valid Colorado Drivers License is required at time of hire.
- Successful completion of pre-employment Polygraph, Psychological, Medical/Drug & Alcohol Testing.
- Completion of any other requirements for Police Officer Certification as required by Colorado POST (e.g. submission of fingerprints to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation).
- Verification of Education.
RECRUITMENT PROCESS:
Qualified applicants must attach proof of their P.O.S.T. Certification or proof of current enrollment in a Police Academy program with their online application.
If selected to interview, candidates will be expected to participate in oral interviews. Candidates who are selected to proceed after their interview, will participate in a ride-a-long and integrity interview. If a candidate is selected to move forward in the recruitment after their ride-a-long and integrity interview, they may be offered a conditional offer of employment based on their successful completion of polygraph testing, psychological exam, medical examination, and a thorough background check. DISQUALIFIERS The Town of Breckenridge has disqualification guidelines for Sworn Officer positions. They generally relate to the following background criteria: integrity, narcotics behavior, driving history, excessive force or violence, financial responsibility and employment history and discipline. These could cause the disqualification of an applicant from the Police Officer process. See
